Discover the bustling Battambang’s capital city

The north-western province of Battambang fascinates many travellers with its bustling provincial capital and its ancient temple structures. Battambang city was established in the 11 th century and is Cambodia's third largest city based on population size. There are French colonial shop houses, a growing art scene and trendy little cafes that create a unique vibe. The city is well positioned as a base for day trips around the province, the nearby temples of Prasat Banan or Phnom Sampeu make excellent day trip destinations.

Beyond Battambang city

Battambang’s beautiful countryside is a perfect destination for nature enthusiasts. Many travellers travel to the mountain side via a series of scenic backroads and small villages and then hike up to the mountains at Phnom Sampeu. At its summit are many temples and caves with a dark past that links it to the Khmer Rouge. A stunning view awaits those who reach the top of the hill. After a day exploring the province, head over to the bat caves to observe a beautiful natural spectacle. Like clockwise thousands of bats leave the caves every evening around the same time to hunt for food.

Beautiful Battambang

Battambang is best to be explored on the saddle of a bike or on the back of a scooter. Bumpy roads lead visitors past little shacks, beautiful monasteries, impressive temples and small villages where travellers can observe the daily life of the Cambodians and learn about traditional weaving techniques. Those that like the unconventional should hop on the bamboo train instead to enjoy the scenery, check out a cooking class or visit the Battambang Circus.
